Imbiber Beads®/Sand Blend - Safe PCB Oil Immobilization
Fact Sheet - Transformer - PCB
Imbiber Beads® /Sand Blend has been successfully used for a number of years in the immobilization of transformer oil at the bottom of drained transformers to keep them from leaking oil. These oils have had trace quantities of PCBs up to 50 PPM. The items involved can include old milling machines, X-ray machines, industrial lathes as well as other items that have contained some type of transformer oil.

Pole Mounted Electrical Transformer being drained of all Dielectric Fluid, (see Fig 6). Sample of Dielectric fluid will be taken & tested for PCB Detection. A 40 milliliter vial of Dielectric fluid is taken per electrical item for sampling verification.

Using a Pneumatic pump all Dielectric Fluid is pumped out and drained into a 55 gallon steel bung drum, which must then be over packed into an 85 gallon open top drum if oil is detected 0.5 PCB or greater in concentration.

Back view of pumping operation, note Pneumatic pump and electrical driven air compressor.

After all Dielectric Fluid has been pumped out , we add the Imbiber Beads® /Sand blend to insure any remaining Dielectric fluid that will drip down from the transformer's coils & other electrical components will be absorbed (immobilized) into a Solid allowing NO LEAKAGE.

Easy to administer the Imbiber Beads® /Sand blend & the knowledge that the electrical component can now remain in storage for years to come without any monitoring or maintenance greatly decreases the workload within your Command (area). Transformer is now a Solid Item safe for long term Storage.

All the Dielectric Fluid oil drained from the Pole Mounted Electrical Transformer is transferred into 55 gallon POP certified steel bung drums then over packed & skid capped. Drums are now awaiting inspection and for final transfer.
In order to safely dispose/storage old electrical transformers, the U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa, have for a number of yrs successfully used the above Imbiber Beads®/Sand Blend process to immobilize residue quantities of transformer oil left at the bottom of drained transformers .
User Responsibility: - Since Imbibitive Technologies cannot control site conditions, it is the responsibility of the user(s) to test when using the Imbiber Beads® Products in any treatment process to insure that it meets Local, State, Federal Regulations.
