SPCC - COMPLIANCE ISSUES
"Innovative devices. Two commenters believed that the rule would apparently preclude the use of innovative containment devices to control discharges from containment dikes, such as imbiber beads....This rule does not preclude innovative devices that achieve the same environmental protection as manual open-&-closed design valves."

WORKER SAFETY
" Five gallons of unleaded gasoline had flowed into the storm drain system at the service station. There was a strong smell of gasoline coming from the manhole. The L.E.L. ( L.E.L. = LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMIT) reading were very high. Two Imbiber Beads Blankets were lowered into the manhole. The reading in the sump dropped to less than 1% within minutes of the Imbiber Beads being place in the manhole. This quickly eliminated the potential for an explosion and allowed us to proceed with the clean up. The Imbiber Beads were extremely effective in quickly reducing the explosive vapors. I highly recommend this product to all emergency responders when cleaning up fuel and solvent spills."

COST BENEFITS
“The benefits of using the Beads have proved to be outstanding - Pope AFB have actually saved money because they need fewer products to clean up a spill ”
- AFCEE (US Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence) Newsletter –April 2000
" The first major test of the benefit of Imbiber beads came during a refueling operation on a C- 130 aircraft. The C-l30 was beginning refueling when the aircraft began dumping fuel out of its overboard dump valves on both sides of the aircraft. It required 10 to 15 personnel to apply and clean up the 14 bags of the traditional adsorbent, on one side of the aircraft; where as one person placed and picked up the 4 Imbiber pillows required (to
recover the spill) on the other side"

WASTE REDUCTION
"The Imbiber Beads® absorb (uptake) the organics rather than an adsorbing (surface) process. This process could reduce the current adsorbent solid waste by 95%.”
